In the Spotlight: Trader Brothers
I spoke with John at Trader Brothers about their business and their new website. He has worked there for six years, and says he works with a great bunch of guys. One of the keys to their success has been their focus on being diverse, not just concentrating on one area, and the website is a logical step toward an even more widespread market.
Trader Brothers opened in 1995, and has been a Lakeland dealer since 1999. They are our 4th largest dealer this year. They sell a variety of products including fencing, plumbing, gas fireplaces, hardware, ammo, guns, and of course, feed. This means that if one type of merchandise isn’t selling well or is seasonal, the rest of the inventory can keep business thriving. John advises not getting emotionally attached to any product, and just letting go of products which aren’t working for the business.
Trader Brothers uses many kinds of advertising, including radio, television, and newspaper, and within the next few weeks plans to begin ads on the internet. They are also using social networking via Facebook. Their flexibility in the ways in which they get their name out there is one of the keys to their success.
Trader Brothers has a big feed sale twice a year, which they say brings in new business. It is a crazy day with lots of people coming in to take advantage of the sale, and “TONS” of feed go out the door.
